How to enable .asp,.aspx extension on a linux server

In order to make the .asp or .aspx extension working on your linux server you need to install “Bundle::Apache::ASP “ on your server through CPAN. You can install it easy if you have “Apache Web Server & mod_perl” pre-installed on your server.

To achieve this login to the server as a root user and run the below commands :

[[email protected] ~]# perl -MCPAN -e shell

cpan> install CPAN

The output of the above commands should looks like this :

Appending installation info to /usr/lib/perl5/5.8.8/i386-linux-thread-multi/perllocal.pod
/usr/bin/make install UNINST=1 — OK

Then run the command :

cpan> install Bundle::Apache::ASP

This will start the installation of Apache:: ASP perl module and may take few minutes to complete normally it does not take more than 20-25 minutes.

And once the installation is completed successfully then you will get the message at the end :

Appending installation info to /usr/lib/perl5/5.8.8/i386-linux-thread-multi/perllocal.pod
/usr/bin/make install UNINST=1 — OK

If you face any problem installing the bundle or if you encounter any error then, try installing the necessary modules one at a time:

cpan> install MLDBM
cpan> install MLDBM::Sync
cpan> install Digest::MD5 *** This may not be needed if the perl version is v5.8.8
cpan> install Apache::ASP

If you want to install/add additional functionality to the exising “Apache::ASP” installation then you can do that by running the below command

cpan> install Bundle::Apache::ASP::Extra

That’s all you are done.
