Roundcube Throwing SMTP error: Connection failed: Failed to connect socket

If you get the below error while sending emails from rouncube.

SMTP Error: SMTP error: Connection failed: Failed to connect socket: Connection timed out in /usr/local/cpanel/base/3rdparty/roundcube/program/steps/mail/func.inc on line 1418

It happens if you have CSF firewall installed and it is upgraded automatically or something like that. Just make following changes in to firewall configuration and it will fix the issue

[email protected][#] vi /etc/csf/csf.conf
and search for
SMTP_ALLOWLOCAL = 1
Replace it with
SMTP_ALLOWLOCAL = 0

Save and Quit.

That’s all your are done.

Note : Restart the csf service after making the  changes.

Recipient receiving same emails many times

Sometimes, it happens that when you send emails, the recipient receive the same email many times in period of intervals. It is because of exim database got corrupted and also you receive following error in exim_mainlog.

Berkeley DB error: /var/spool/exim/db/retry: unexpected file type or format

Apply following solution to fix this issue.

Stop exim service using following command

[email protected][#] /etc/init.d/exim stop

or

[email protected][#] service exim stop

then go to /var/spool/exim/db/ and remove all the files. Make sure to take the backup of /db folder if in case if there is another problem arise.

Start Exim service.

[email protected][#] /etc/init.d/exim start

or

[email protected][#] service exim start

After starting exim service, It will rebuild exim database.

Error : Invalid maildirsize file!

If you are getting the  error : “Invalid maildirsize file! ” while changing the email  quota  for  any email  account then  follow the below steps :

[email protected][#] cd /home/username/mail/domain name/email account  name

[email protected][#] rm  -f  maildirsize

That’s all you are done.
